I'm here!!! *waves to all my friends*

Finally !! I'm back online. That took a while. Sorry if I kept people waiting for answers, products, mails, gossip, and updates.

As most of you know I moved to the UK last February. By the time I was over my mental brake down, culture shock and cold feet.... the computer crashed.
It has been out of the running for weeks. I got back online today.
So after wrestling through 500 emails, junkmail and love letters( I wish), I finally got around being on Tribe again.

Quick update:
- Living in Andover
- Ralph had to prospone his flight because he couldn't get his visa in time. So now he is coming end of May.
This means I still have to work another month for my friend and look after her and her 4 teenage kids. Limiting my ability to travel for another month.
- I got involved with the Museum of the Iron-age in Andover. They LOVE that I moved into their town :-)
They are going to PAY me ( yes, yes) to do old fiber technique childrens activities.
AND I have the opertunity to organize workshops at the museum!!
AND they asked me to fill a big display in fall.
- I figured out 7 different lucet designes.
- I'm loosing weight and dyed my hair. Its now blond with orange and red.
- I stil have not decided on a supplier for my soapnuts. Not sure what to do with that at the moment. Its a bit on hold.
- My wool has been shipped to me, so I am ready to start making things.I even have an improvised sprang loom hanging from/ in my bedroom closet.
Now I have to look for wire online because its not for sale in this town.
And the local craft shop is run by very unfriendly ladies. So you won't see me in there unless an absolute emergency. They don't have much anyway.

Talk to ya later...

Magical flight

In a few hours i am leaving to the UK. First from Avoca to Detroit. And then to Gatwick UK.
And guess what?
Yesterday I found out that when I am flying over the ocean, there is a lunar eclips!!!!

When I am moving to a new part of my life, moving country, I always end up doing that with or days around a full moon. It always just turned out that way. But an eclips! Wow.
Sometimes I feel like that lady in the movie "chocolat" that when the wind blows a certain way, she has to move on.
Well, I have that with full moons.

I will talk to you guys from the other side of the pond.

I am truely blessed by the Gods.

Moving to the UK

It finally is going to happen. The time has come. I am moving to the UK.
To Andover. That is about an hour west of London.
And about 10 minutes from Stonehenge :-)

I will be flying 20 feb and arrive 21st.
Two days after I arrive I already have an appointment with the local Viking group.
Their base is Old Sarum, an iron age hill fort. So I will be right at home.

The last few days I have been doing some research about English eco- projects and where I can promote my soapnuts. There is plenty of opportunity.
I have been emailing with suppliers from India and I found a cheap one for the UK.
But my old one was cheaper for the US. And he does smaller quantities. So that is fine with me.
Its all very exciting.

I'm moving in with my best friend/ second mommy/ HPS.
And she is not doing so well health wise. Because she is officially handicapped she needs a care giver. And she will give me that job. So I have already a basic job set up for me. For basically doing my own groceries.

My friends here in the US are giving me saying goodbye-parties. I don't really like that. Because I travel so much, I will see them again. So it is never really good-bye. So I feel a bit strange when they do that.
I got a really great letter of recommendation though. Now I have to live up to that. Haha.

To the citizens of the United States of America:

To the citizens of the United States of America:

In light of your failure to elect a competent President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of our independence, effective immediately.

Her Sovereign Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths and other territories (except Kansas, which she does not fancy), as from Monday next. Your new prime minister, Gordon Brown, will appoint a governor for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed.

To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:

1. You should look up "revocation" in the Oxford English Dictionary. Then look up "aluminium," and check the pronunciation guide. You will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it.

2. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'colour', 'favour' and 'neighbour.' Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters, and the suffix "ize" will be replaced by the suffix "ise."

3. You will learn that the suffix 'burgh' is pronounced 'burra'; you may elect to respell Pittsburgh as 'Pittsberg' if you find you simply can't cope with correct pronunciation.

4. Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels (look up "vocabulary"). Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as "like" and "you know" is unacceptable and inefficient form of communication.

5. There is no such thing as "US English." We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter 'u' and the elimination of "-ize."

6. You will relearn your original national anthem, "God Save The Queen", but only after fully carrying out Task #1 (see above).

7. July 4 will no longer be celebrated as a holiday. November 2 will be a new national holiday, but to be celebrated only in England. It will be called "Come-Uppance Day."

8. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not adult enough to be independent. Guns should only be handled by adults. If you're not adult enough to sort
things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist then you're not grown up enough to handle a gun.

9. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. A permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.

10. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap and this is for your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we mean.

11. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric immediately and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour.

12. The Former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling "gasoline") - roughly $6/US gallon. Get used to it.

13. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called "crisps." Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with mayonnaise but with vinegar.

14. Waiters and waitresses will be trained to be more aggressive with customers.

15. The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as "beer," and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as "Lager." American brands will be referred to as "Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine," so that all can be sold without risk of further confusion.

16. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors to play English characters. Watching Andie MacDowell attempt English dialogue in "Four Weddings and a Funeral" was an experience akin to having one's ears removed with a cheese grater.

17. You will cease playing American "football." There is only one kind of proper football; you call it "soccer". Those of you brave enough will, in time, will be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American "football", but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of nancies).

18. Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the "World Series" for a game which is not played outside of America . Since only 2.1% of you are aware that there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable.

19. You must tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us mad.

20. An internal revenue agent ( i.e. tax collector) from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due backdated to 1776.

Thank you for your co-operation.

I'M BACK!!

Hello my Tribe friends,

We made it back to the USA. For a moment it was tempting to stay in the UK, but we managed to get off the island. Maybe next time we will end up in Scotland..ya never know with my life.
At the moment I am suffering from a terrible jet lag. So I am behind the computer the weirdest times of the day.
I brought back lots of nice pics.
-A fantastic rainbow when we were at Avebury circle ( after horizontal rain)
- about 50 pics of historic Dutch Achterhoekse caps ( Poffers) from around 18-19 hundred.
- old farms+ tools from around the same time period.
- a day in the medieval museum with details of Viking etc fighter practice, looms, houses and riet roofs.
-and some boring family pics with cute nephews.

Drop me a line if you are interested in any of them. But it will take a couple of days to process them. First I have to get the house in order. The" going on a holiday -bomb" exloded a month ago and now I have to do damage controll. I looked at the fruit in the fridge and it looked back at me...

I am going to drink a big glass of strong liquer. Maybe then I can fall asleep at "normal" hours. And get things done around here.

How was my holiday? :

Making a website

I always thought making a website is this very difficult thing to do. But it is nothing more then filling in a very, very long profile.
Did it via Lycos sitebuilder. And that worked out ok. The free site takes forever to load , because of their advertisements. But now that is paid, I do not have that problem.
I never made a website. So now I am pritty proud.
Of course there needs to be lots and lots more on it. More pics, more reports and workshops. But this is the beginning.
There will be changes on a regular basis anyway. Because I learn new techniques and make new stuff.
I can't wait to do more.

Greetings from Gullveig.

www.vikinggirlsworkshop.com

Waaaauwwwww!!
*jumps up and down with excitement*
I have my new website up!!
vikinggirlsworkshop.com/

Made it all by myself. I always thought making a webpage was difficult. but it is no harder then filling in a very very long profile :-)
Of course there needs lots to be done to the page. Besides that I always learn new techniques and make more stuff it needs some more specialty workshops like I did with sprang.

Have a look at the page and tell me what you think. I can always use some comments. Then I can make it even better.

Greetings from Vikinggirl
