<a href="http://people.tribe.net/vivavoce/blog/fc146a32-2583-4911-b222-f53c085999c2">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/e88/c1c/e88c1cdc-c368-4a1d-9012-7179d3c1fce2.thumb" width="52" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>Please, I beg you, if you have the opportunity today to vote in a Democratic presidential primary, vote for Barack Obama. I beg you.

Thanks.
Courtney &amp; Ashley

PS This video is really inspirational: Yes We Can! (www.yeswecansong.com)

PPS If you are not affiliated with a party in the State of California, you can still vote for Obama today - simply request a Democratic ballot at your polling location

PPPS I also spent a shitload of time reading about the propositions on the state ballot and here is where I come down (in case you need some guidance):

Prop 91: (YES) TRANSPORTATION FUNDS. INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT. ~ YES. This proposition ensures that funds collected as a result of various taxes related to vehicles stay in two specially-designated transportation funds (rather than allowing them to be borrowed by the general fund). These two funds are earmarked for public transit and roads development. I really like the idea of this as it specifically forces those who drive cars to fund related transportation initiatives; it becomes like a user fee, which makes a lot of sense to me. Also, I think our state and national governments should start balancing their budgets, not through crazy accounting like robbing paul to pay mary, but rather through, I don't know, here's an idea, making sound fiscal decisions, spending within their means and trimming the fat.

Prop 92 : (NO) COMMUNITY COLLEGES. FUNDING. GOVERNANCE. FEES. INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT AND STATUTE.~ NO. I like community colleges as much as the next guy and am way pro-education funding and this proposition sounds really good IN THEORY. However, it's poorly written and binds the legislature to allocate a certain percentage of the general funds budget to community colleges (perhaps at the expense of other programs). It's a bad idea to tie the hands of the legislature right now given the state of California's budget.

Prop 93: (No) TERM LIMITS. In 1990, the voters passed Proposition 140, which provided for term limits for most state officeholders, and this included the legislature: three 2-year terms in the Assembly and two 4-year terms in the Senate. This proposition would change it so that one could serve 12 years total, regardless of the body (assembly vs Senate). Again, this sounds fine in theory BUT there is also a loophole written it that basically allows those current legislators who would otherwise be termed out to remain. This smacks of politicking without integrity, which I'm always against.

Prop 94-97 (NO) Indian Gaming. These propositions would increase the number of slot machines that the four richest and biggest tribes could run while increasing the amount and modifying the state fund that the casinos would have to pay to the state government. It's an attempt to garner the state government more money at the expense of other, smaller tribes (shifts money from a special fund for them to the general fund). I really like Steve Friedl's rationale on this so I will quote and link to him (www.unixwiz.net/voting/200...rop94..97):

&amp;lt;-------------BEGIN QUOTE----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
I also bear no animus toward the Indians: I think most of us share the view that they have gotten the short end of the stick throughout history, and many believe that gaming operations are a way to work themselves out of a bad situation.

I actually believe that it makes them worse off: they become wards of the big casino operators, reinforces the notion that they are some kind of separate and helpless race, and sucks any hope for initiative or industry.

Indian Gaming hurts Indians and destroys a proud tradition of self reliance.

Most of the positions for and against are really based on expanding or protecting a government-granted monopoly, which by definition makes them self-interested, not principled positions, though it rarely stops either side from appealing to principles held by others.

Sure, the four Tribes are supposed to send lots more money to the state (and God knows we need it), but this would just give a benefit to the Tribes with the best lobbyists and best PR.

I hate to reward that kind of activity because it just brings out the worst in everybody.

Proposition S (NO!)
NO! This one is slimy because it is disguised as a tax cut (from 10% to 9%) but also vastly expands the types of services ("Communications Services" shall mean the transmission, conveyance, or routing of voice, audio. video communications, data or any other communications information or signals to a point, or between or among points, whatever the technology used, and whether or not that information is transmitted through interconnected service with the public switched network, or through fiber optic, coaxial cable, power line transmission, broadband, digital subscriber line or other wireless transmission.") that can be taxed, so is actually a tax hike.

    </a>
										<div>This past saturday, I was invited to go to a BM fundraiser by my friend Jaimi. Coming from an abundantly saturated BM community in Los Angeles, I didn't know what to expect. With a regularity, that I once had in California in regards to the events and the caliber of events, I must say, I have high expectations. When one is constalntly attending or working alongside art inovators such as Space Island and The Do Lab; it's a tall order to fill.

Let me say that the location, the entertainment and the people/community attending met and exceeded my expectations. Where LA sometimes falls short of substance and everyone is a polished replica manifested from only a small group of real creative inovators, the crowd at A Cavallo's Carousel event were raw, eclectic, excentric, original and ALIVE with personality.

The event was held in an old fire house, in the neighborhood that I live in , Red Hook, Brooklyn. The decor was fun and funky. Required dresscode humerous and forgiving. Live bands, that were actually really good. Most of all I have to compliment New Yorker's for being far more humble and genuinley interested and interesting than the majority of Los Angelenos that I have run into at parties.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

<div>So in LA we landed, got to see a few close friends and then we were off to Coachella. Everything went great until Sunday night when my BRAND NEW cell phone got stolen and Jim and I both got strep throat. We spent the rest of our vacation home, on penicilin and out of touch with all friends because of my lack of a cellular device. All in all it was a great time minus the unexpected sickness.

Flew back and wanted so badly to go to Sub Swara on friday night to celebrate my b-day, but didn't end up going since our flight didn't land until 11:45p.m. in Jersey. We flew over the Pulaski skyway and saw all the traffic backed up going into the holland tunnel and just decided to stay at JIm's mom"s that night. I look forward to going to the Black and Light ball/ BM fundraiser next weekend.

Got a lot accomplished but really wished I could have met up with Courtney, Naz, Rapha(more), Steph&amp;Ona(more), Alissa and Amanda.

Wish I would have been able to party with Jaimie, Mikkio, Tiggerrrrr, Dhruva and friends at Sub Swara but it was just to much on my little plate for last night.

All the love to everyone.

<div>is getting the best of me. If only I could blame my alertness at 4 am on a fun night out and a drug enduced euphoria......but in all actuality it's just excessive cigarette smoking and maybe the knowing that I live in the city that truly never sleeps.

I guess I'll go on the roof...smoke another cigarette.....and gaze at the beauty that is lower manhattan. (side note) There aren't many stars out to see, for obvious reasons.....but instead of looking up one should just look out. It looks as though some one masterfully bottled the galaxy into all those buildings. SImply brethtaking.

peace out.</div>

<div>A dear friend's laptop went missing the night of Lace &amp; Silk ... please remember that SI is a home and that attending festivities at the Island also entails respect and appreciation for the property. You are always welcomed as family ... as our own ... please extend that courtesy, love and respect to the SI crew.

A Message From Ona:

"Somebody has stolen a laptop from my friend (BUI). He had stored his laptop in the front office during the V-day party, hidden under the counter. I'm very disappointed in this; as I was was the one who told him it would probably be safe there, given the nature of our community...if anyone knows any information regarding the laptop's whereabouts, or if someone is willing to return it (REPENT!) I am offering a reward. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

On another note, THANK YOU to everyone who either bought pieces or liked the sample collection of F.O.H lingerie!! That was the cutest damned party, and it was for sure the best V-day ever. Thanks to the DJ's and Stefano &amp; Crew for BUSTING YOUR ASS! What other party or event can you attend where the owner (Stef) will run around and re-park 10 different people's cars all so they could continue having fun?? S.I., that's where. total Rockstars! Love you all."

Please contact us directly if you have any information regarding our friend Bui's laptop ... thank you.

    </a>
										<div>So everybody, We've decided (jimmy &amp; I) to got hrough with it, and move to Brooklyn. I am simply thrilled about it. I have always been an LA girl with an east coast heart. NYC is so versatile and exciting to me. I just spent the holidays back there, reunited with my best friend of almost 10 years and have had an amazing opportunity pretty much fall into my lap. Jim already has a job back there and we already have an apartment to move into in this awesome neighborhood called Redhook. I am looking into Brooklyn Univerisity to go back to school for teaching.

Besides the always temperate weather the only other thing I will miss about LA are all of you. My family lives here, so I will be back often to visit. Please make sure to keep in touch because you all mean so much to me. This is a life long dream for me that is becoming a reality. When I was 17 I bought tickets to "Cabaret" hoping that would motivate me to get out there.....I just couldn't get it together. Then at 19, I was offered a job at MTV in NYC in post production and didn't take it because I was nervous and couldn't afford to move to NY so I could practically starve on the salary they were gonna pay me. Finally, my time has come and I have a fabulous partner to accompany me on my journey.

So wish me luck....and....
Thank you all for the hard laughs, long weekends, late nights, sleep-depro days and all and all good times.
all the love in the world from the west to the east.
Ashley

BREAKBEATBUDDHA (Ovatone)
BreakBeatBuddha has been shakin' dance floors on numerous continents for 15 years now. His DJ sets are a blend of Hip Hop, Break Beat and Drum n' Bass, to which he adds live conscious lyricism that challenges the dance floor and politicizes the party. Originally from the UK, he brings his knowledge of the "Bad Brit Bass" to ruff things up on the West Coast. Both DJ and producer, he's responsible for numerous dance floor killers such as "Buddha Bounce" (Organic Music) and "Dat Feelin" (OVATONE music).

A producer of varying styles from dance to rock to hip-hop to bhangra and everything in between, his production standards are compared to the best and DJs like Adam Freeland and Karsh Kale are spinning out his original songs and remixes. His DJ sets have been rumored to cause earthquakes in California with his sonic bass frequencies and he consistently takes the music to the next level.

JUPITER (TheDoLab/Space Island)
Jupiter often referred to as the utility guy of LA’s underground sound scene, has come a long way since venturing out to his first experience of warehouse enlightenment and connection nearly 8 years ago. His beat matching and wealth of skills are exemplified from years of experience in the studio and in live music production. He has accumulated and cross-referenced them with an insane range of musical influences ranging from psy, tech, trance and break elements. Jupiter has been a long-standing part of LA’s underground music scene, dropping jaws and shaking asses all over Southern California from Space Island to Coachella.

BRIAN SEED (Moon Tribe)

MANNY(DJ Dojo/Austin, TX.)

He now produces under the name Dubwise International and will be bringin' a slew of bumpin', chunky mashups and breakbeats to the Island.

AZMYTH (Manifest Station)
Azmyth has spent six years in the mix, pushing his skill evolution through everything from Trance to Hip Hop, before settling deep into the sound of Broken Beats. His current sets include Dub &amp; 2-step, Funk, Electro, Progressive &amp; Glitch Hop sounds. Azmyth specializes in themed events, so get ready for a Hallow-riffic treat at Space Island as this mad scientist releases his new formula to the masses.

DANDELION (Space Island)
Dandelion was conceived for the sole purpose of taking audiences on musical journeys by spinning beautiful soundscapes and nasty wicked beats. He is blessed with the natural gift of rhythm. Dandelion began DJ'ng after being inspired by the spirit of the Burning Man and his passion for breaks. He has played his sets to a worldwide audience (Bombay, Chennai, Goa), and has been holding down the tables at his residency, Space Island, since 2004.
