the season of unfinished business

Does fall give you that urgent feeling that you should finish up some of the things that you've started? I have a house to sell, another to remodel, and a relationship that needs some soul-searching. It's time to finish up, take stock, get comfortable, and dig in for the winter.

Fall has traditionally been a time of beginnings for me, after years of school and living in a college town where the population doubles each fall. however, seems that I am in the same place you are, remodeling a home and a relationship to remodel as well. I would like these finished in time for winter's settling in. Are you pushing forward on sheer will alone, or do you have ways to keep your incentive?

getting it settled
Strangely enough, there always seems to be something in motion that's bigger than my own plans and my own understanding of where things are going. This time, early in the summer on a swing of optimism and determination, I bought my money pit with big dreams, not knowing that I was on the tail end of an unfortunate relationship. Now, months later, I'm feeling my way through a new relationship, trying to listen to my heart and feel the potential, and the house is there, calling me to finish up and make a real home in time to put up some holiday decorations, stoke up a nice fire, and feel like things are all ok even when it's cold outside. I try to look around and look at which pieces of my live are in motion, and which ones are settled. When it's both home and heart that are in motion, it's tough to feel ready for a new year, so I feel like I want to resolve at least some of it. Then I can face a new year with more optimism, new ideas, new beginnings.

What kind of remodelling project are you doing?

I just finished painting the hall and am laying Pergo in it. I did the Clean Sweep thing on the junk room and turned it into my craft room. Next, Pergo goes in the office and bedroom and the bedroom gets a coat of paint any color but white. :) Eventually I'll get to the living room and kitchen. I'd like to do some landscaping too, but that's going to have to wait.

I am in a similar position with the house and home/relationship and have felt like my life and the house were on hold for some time. Finally I figured I might as well get moving on the house work so it looks like humans live here. :)

Fall has been a time of beginnings for me, as well; I usually do some projects to make the "nest" all cozy before winter sets in...

This year will be strange, I think, having moved to a climate that has no dramatic autumn. I talked to a friend in Minneapolis yesterday, and she said it had been in the 80s on Monday, and snow was predicted for the weekend..

Part of me is glad for the continually mild weather here... part of me misses walking in air that makes my eyes water.... shuffling my feet through fallen leaves...
