We've not yet met in person, but I know I could pick Mike out in a crowd just by honing in on that fun and good energy he exudes. It is evident in his art as well. He's one of those people who WOWS you from the get go. May all the naturally good energy you give off circle back around and replenish your soul tenfold.

about me
Free-spirited gay artist FINALLY able to do it full time. Sometimes called "Goat" by my friends. Lighthearated. Pass for many years younger. (...and beginning to question why that's really important.) I enjoy a spiritual connection to things that's currently described as somewhat neo-pagan. I believe that sex is a celebration and not a competition. (Body Electric Grad)
I'm in love with the Southwest. In 1995, I visited Santa Fe after another local Atlanta artist said "It will change your mind about color." Well it changed more than that. Much of my subject matter has completely changed since that trip and later visits to Sedona. Even after growing up on the Florida coast, I've NEVER seen skies like those in the West. When I paint them, they're hard to exaggerate. The mix of cultures--Hispanic and Native American--and their way with colorful, spiritual artistic expression will continue to inspire me. I'm very much a city boy and not a big country-western music fan though. Or at least not until I've had two beers, and then I want to be a star. I learned that when a former partner (and now best friend) had me take two-step lessons and danced at an Atlanta C&W bar. (For those that are guessing initials in that context, like S&M, B&D, GWM, etc. it's just "Country and Western.) I have been known to twang a serious rendition of "Honky Tonk Angels" in the shower. I still have Portugal, Greece, South Africa and Spain to paint, but most of the time the brushes demand that it be something Southwestern. Change of subject: Brand-name status items? I don't get it. I'd rather see those Calvins on the floor. Two of my favorite quotations: "Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly." --G.K. Chesterton. I found myself growing tired of being angry about so much. Reading this quote changed my life (whether I believe in traditional angels or not). "A lifetime of disco is too high a price to pay for my sexuality." --Quentin Crisp And one of my mottoes: "There's no such thing as a bad Mexican restaurant." Poke around my website. Enjoy the art. michaelgoettee.com

I'm look forward to tonight's HBO movie, "Behind the Candelabra." Who KNEW that man was gay????? Evidently the folks of the extremely naive decades during his heyday did not. My brother and I took piano lessons as kids and his red piano-shaped sheet music book for beginners was in our piano bench. Liberace was quite a big deal back then because of his TV show. The Elton John of the 50s. My parents went to see him in concert, and I believe it was in Vegas, and they came home with this autograp...

I was accepted again into a juried (professionally selected for snob appeal and bragging rights) exhibition at the Booth Western Art Museum. I have one painting/mixed-media piece in their permanent collection, and with two additional pieces in a summer-long show there, I've got THREE pieces in the largest collection of western art in the nation. Whoda guessed that it would be an hour north of my home in Atlanta. The Booth is world-class, Smithsonian affiliated and a real eye dazzler.

Is anyone else not receiving a notification of messages in their tribe inbox sent to their regular e-mail addresses? I'd always be notified by e-mail if there was a message waiting for me in my tribe inbox, but haven't been receiving the notices lately. I haven't made any changes to my preferences. No biggie to come to the site every time I log in, but would rather not do that JUST to check for a message.

Contacted tribe, but no reply after a couple of days.
WAHOO. This month has been wonderful for me in the art world. This painting and another, my armadillo painting called "Crossing Guard," just got accepted into the 2012 Southwestern Contemporary Realism Show and Competition at the Arroyo Gallery (Santa Fe and Telluride). I just spent the day cutting fingers and making shipping boxes so they can head west from here in Atlanta. Important peeps like editors from Southwest Art Magazine see this show.

I just got home from this year's Artists Guild of Northwest Georgia exhibition, a prestigious juried show I'd entered last year and won two top awards. I'd have been completely satisfied if I hadn't won a thing tonight because I'm truly still coasting on the honors from last year. Tonight, I thought that would be the case after all of the judge's awards went to others, but then a last award, The "People's Choice Award" voted on by... read more
