The "Mothership" is taking off.
Sat, October 6, 2012 - 7:16 PMI just got home from this year's Artists Guild of Northwest Georgia exhibition, a prestigious juried show I'd entered last year and won two top awards. I'd have been completely satisfied if I hadn't won a thing tonight because I'm truly still coasting on the honors from last year. Tonight, I thought that would be the case after all of the judge's awards went to others, but then a last award, The "People's Choice Award" voted on by attendees who had received ballots at the door was announced and I won that for "Mothership," my quirky Airstream/Armadillo piece. (Insert clip of Sally Field's second Oscar win acceptance speech here.) To me that's every bit as satisfying as the more academic judge's selection. It was like a cherry on the icing on the cake this weekend with two evenings of opening receptions both at the Booth Western Art Museum's new gallery in Cartersville last night and this one tonight up in Acworth at the very nice Gallery 4463. I entered two pieces in each.
And now, after a second night of LONG drives, I'm conking out with a cocktail.
(This piece includes a traditional painted canvas in acrylics, with a 3D carved armadillo/Airstream trailer of wood and MDF board.)

There's a certain wit or humour in the image, which (it seems to me) is what the majority of people really and postively respond to in a work of art... As for example in the work of Banksy, the graffiti artist, who is hugely popular over here.
