Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness.
Know how to give without hesitation,
how to lose without regret,
how to acquire without meanness.

by Noel Coward

Deep in our sub-conscious, we are told
Lie all our memories, lie all the notes
Of all the music we have ever heard
And all the phrases those we loved have spoken,
Sorrows and losses time has since consoled,
Family jokes, out-moded anecdotes
Each sentimental souvenir and token
Everything seen, experienced, each word
Addressed to us in infancy, before
Before we could even know or understand
The implications of our wonderland.
There they all are, the legendary lies
The birthday treats, the sights, the sounds, the tears
Forgotten debris of forgotten years
Waiting to be recalled, waiting to rise
Before our world dissolves before our eyes
Waiting for some small, intimate reminder,
A word, a tune, a known familiar scent
An echo from the past when, innocent
We looked upon the present with delight
And doubted not the future would be kinder
And never knew the loneliness of night.

Froglessness
by: Thich Nhat Hanh

The first fruition of the practice
is the attainment of froglessness.
When a frog is put
On the center of a plate
She will jump out of the plate
After just a few seconds.

If you put the frog back again
On the center of the plate,
she will again jump out.

You have so many plans.
There is something you want to become.
Therefore you always want to make a leap,
a leap forward.

It is difficult
to keep the frog still
on the center of the plate.
You and I
both have Buddha Nature in us.
This is encouraging,
but you and I
both have Frog Nature in us.

That is why
the first attainment
of the practice-
froglessness is its name.

.. that she knew that the chances of being assassinated were so high, and yet she still rode out in the open?
I cried this morning when I heard of her death on the news, my girls were sitting at the table eating breakfast ... so the questions started coming in.
Later in the day, I was in the nurses lounge at work and the television was on, and again I stood silently, crying. One of the nurses noticed me, and the questions began.
How do you tell someone who has never heard of Benazir Bhutto about her history, her spirit .. I tried.
A sorrowful day, what is the world coming to?

She's our adventure PE teacher at Evergreen Community Charter School and one amazing woman! Jo brings this freshness to movement, inspiring the kids, offering them stimulating challenges, and all without ever shaming or alienating them .. ahh, that more PE coaches could be so eloquent and powerful.
Her husband, Kevin Smith, is a fourth grade teacher at Evergreen and is one of the most innovative individuals I've ever met, he teaches from a place of enthusiasm that motivates the kids to want to learn.
Ena was in his class two years ago and she had so much fun! I think Kevin can be credited for getting her started on the journey of true education.
Thanks you two, you are cherished and appreciated.

Mission Hospital has an overview of Asheville on its website with so many links, I was amazed to see everything in one place.
I guess being the largest employer in the area, it stands to reason that the web site would be so comprehensive.

I just celebrated my 5th aniversary as an employe at Mission.
The logo with the green cross and the dogwood is a favorite of mine.

The flock of wild turkeys that live in North Asheville visited our yard today.
Naturally, my daughter ran and got my turkey call and had a clucky conversation with them. A little later on she herded the troops into our back yard and then baracaded them in. Now what am I going to do with a flock of wild turkeys to feed?
Fornuately Sarah called and invited us over to her hot tub and that was that.... very relaxing evening.
