Attention "Burners":

Playa is the Spanish word for Beach. According to dictionary.com, the word Beach means "the shore of a body of water, especially when sandy or pebbly."

Water. I have never seen a body of water in any Burning Man photos, not even the ariel ones. You are in the desert. The Spanish word for desert is desierto.

You are not on the playa, you are in the desierto.

I should have mentioned all this sooner, but what the balls.

Couple of SCCS activities tonight. The biggest one is the Katrina Benefit that the Symphony is doing. The show is free, with all donations going... well, you know where they're going. The show is at 8pm at the former Luther Burbank Center, and the program includes selections from Mozart's Requiem and some spirituals for our part, then the orchestra is doing Beethoven's 5th, and I've heard buzz that Kahane will be playing something too. Our one rehearsal is also toingt, at 5. Should be fun.

also, the unfortunately scheduled SCCS fundraiser is also tonight, at the Rohnert Park Mary's Pizza. It's all day, just go to www.sonomachoral.org to get a flyer, take the flyer to Mary's and order tons of food, 20% of your bill goes straight to the SCCS. Good deal.
