</a>
<div>It’s that time of year again! October has quite a few important anniversaries. This is the time of year that COLAGE celebrates it’s 19th birthday and we do so through or Support Our Community Campaign ( http://COLAGE.kintera.org/soc09/whittles )! COLAGE is a national movement of children, youth, and adults, with one or more lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer (LGBTQ) parent/s. We Build community and work toward social justice through youth empowerment, leadership development, education, and advocacy. I can’t tell you how many kids have told me that thanks to the dedicated work of COLAGE, they’ve realized that they’re not alone. This work is only possible because of the generous donations of people like you.

I’m writing this note to you from Orlando, Florida. This weekend's meeting here marks my 4th year on COLAGE's national board of directors and second as board chair. When I joined the board in 2005, I was excited, nervous, and inspired. I’d been volunteering with COLAGE for 2 years and had fallen in love with this community. I’d witness the powerful impact that COLAGE has had on children, families, institutions, and state laws, helping ALL families get the recognition, rights, and respect that they deserve. Since my time on the board my understanding of and gratitude for COLAGE’s commitment to social justice has only deepened. While this meeting also marks my transition off of the board I feel very confident in the new leadership that’s stepping up to take things forward. It is with this in mind that I ask you, now more than ever to support COLAGE’s work into the future.

This weekend also marked what would have been my father’s 71st birthday. And as I move forward in my efforts to support this movement, I do so in honor of the legacy and lessons that he left with me, as well as COLAGE’s impact on my perspective. COLAGE has really helped me know that when it comes to my family, our difference is our strength. And no amount of gay bashing or homophobic legislation can take that strength away from me.

So it is with all of these important milestones in mind that I ask you to give. Our Support Our Community campaign runs through the month of October. (also, in honor of National Coming Out Month!) In honor of our 19th anniversary, we’re asking at least 19 people to give $19. If you’ve never given to COLAGE before, you could start with a small donation. If you’ve given to COLAGE before, perhaps you can strengthen your commitment by raising the amount you give. I know I’m pledging to double my monthly donation in the coming calendar year. Won’t you join me?

<div>I have a very smart and capable friend who's in dire need of some under the table work.
She's tech smart
has done a lot of project management stuff.
has experience in gaming.
and marketing
and social justice work
copy writing
theory writing
community organizing
dog walking

She's a quick learner, and up for anything right now. But it has to be under the table.
If you have any leads (one offs, short term, part time, full time, long term, whatever), it would be much appreciated.
Thanks. </div>

    </a>
										<div>Dear Friends and Family,

October is here and COLAGE's (www.colage.org) Support Our Community Campaign has begun. This year we are asking 18 people to donate $18 in honor of our 18th anniversary. We do this campaign during October in connection with National Coming Out Day, because even though not all children with one or more LGBTQ parents are queer, they usually have their own coming out story.

I know I remember quite well the slow realization that my family was different. I remember realizing that that difference was something that wasn't safe or ok to talk about. I remember the fear, shame and isolation involved.

But even more so than that, I remember the empowerment and pride I felt when I found the COLAGE community. I remember the connection and commonality I felt when I first met another adult who had lost a parent to AIDS. I remember the relief and gratitude that came with realizing that I could bring my whole self to COLAGE spaces. I remember the gratitude I felt when I saw that my complex and sometimes seemingly contradicing identity was not just tolerated by the COLAGE community, but celebrated.

Over the years I have gained more than I can measure from my involvement with this organization. And it makes my heart swell again and again to watch the youth and adults who get involved with this organization find their own voice, their own strengths, and their own community.

I know that in these frightening economic times, donating to good causes can feel like a big sacrifice. And I fully understand that it's not an option for a lot of folks. However, even if you feel up for sparing $5, it helps make a difference. Of course, larger donations are always appreciated. Every dollar helps COLAGE expand it's reach to the more than 10 million estimated youth with one or more gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer parent.

Take a second to check out my page. If you can, donate. Either way, please pass this along to other folks that care. If you know any children, youth, and adults with LGBTQ parents, pass this on. If you know any queer folks who are thinking about having kids, please pass this on. If you know any families that don't fit the conventional picket fence model, pass this on. COLAGE's work helps everyone.

<div>
Greetings Folks,

I hope this note finds you enjoying the last legs of summer. There's a
lot going on in my world and I want to share the pieces that affect my
massage business.

As of last Friday I have officially graduated from my one year
internship at California Pacific Medical Center's Institute for Health
and Healing. I now have 500 more hours of training under my belt and a
lot of wonderful experience with inpatient care, as well as on an
integrative medicine team. As proud as I am of the work I've done
there, I'm even more excited for what's to come. The folks over at IHH
have asked me to stay on another year, doing bedside massage and
helping supervise next year's interns in the Integrative Medicine
Program.

What this means for my private practice is that my hours are changing.
Come the week of September 8th, I am now available for massages on
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The other big news is that I'm moving! Don't worry, I'm not going too
far. My new location will be just a few blocks from the North Berkeley
Bart stop, and right off of the University Ave exit. I'll be starting
my new hours there the first week of September.

My rates will be the same - $80/hr and $100/1.5hr in Oakland, with
outcall rates being higher depending on location. And, as always,
current clients can receive a $15 discount if they schedule a session
within a week of their birthday!

That's all from my end. If you have any questions or would like to
book an appointment, please feel free to drop me a line either by
phone or email. I hope all is well with you and I look forward to
seeing you soon!

Be Well,

It's time for Revolution!

<div>This Friday, SF Bay Guardian's "Best Local Web 'Zine", Big Top Magazine, is throwing it's premiere party. Revolution is going to be an affair to remember, one you will not want to miss. With some top billers like Vau De Vire, Bad Unkl Sista, and The Wandering Marrionettes, they're really pulling out all the stops on this one. Tickets are selling fast and will likely be sold out before the night is done, so get yours soon. They're $17 in advance and $20 at the door.

Right now what the fine folks over at Bid Top are looking for is advertisers and sponsors. This magazine was getting hits from all over the world before, and now with the new award from the Guardian, things are really ramping up! Some top notch advertisers will really help this event happen, and will speak to an enthusiastic and devoted community of the cirque neuvo family. For more information on how to get involved, read below.

Big Top Magazine wants you, needs you, loves you! Chosen “Best Local Web Zine” of 2008 by the SF Bay Guardian (&amp; you – thank you!) after only being launched three months ago, &amp; wants to promote your business, and reward you for letting us do it!
As a huge thank you, until *this* Thursday evening 8/7/08, receive two FREE tickets to its first event, REVOLUTION! (up to a $40 value, not including the immense fun you’ll have at the show) for any advertising space purchased at a value of $150 or more! The magazine is skyrocketing as well as the visits to it, and so this is the absolute best time to get in and let people know about *your* business or services!

Additionally, I plan on doing an issue directly from Burning Man centering on the performers in my camp, The Red Nose District – but I need your help to make it there and achieve this vision – so it’s an incredible win-win thang! You get very visible advertising for what you work so hard for, and what I work so hard for is able to improve for everybody! At the time of this writing, the site has been viewed 2,671 times by 55 countries/territories (including all but 4 states in the U.S. – obviously red ones…) since it’s launch in May, and I’m just getting started! YOUR business can reach out to the world through Big Top!

For more information on advertising benefits &amp; rates, please visit http://bigtopmagazine.com/Advertising/advertise.html and for more information on Big Top Magazine’s first production, visit http://bigtopmagazine.com/revolution.html

Thank you all so much for your continued support, and making Big Top the “Best Of The Bay”!
Hurry now – time is running out for those free tickets – and hey, if you have a friend who you think should advertise with Big Top, forward this to them – hell, forward it everywhere, the New Circus needs you, &amp; so do I!

Big Top Love,

<div>I have two friends who've secured a really awesome apartment near the Balboa BART station. It's a 3 bedroom and they need a 3rd roommate. It's right near a park and a really cute space. They are both super awesome - creative, playful, grown-ups with their shit together who know how to have fun AND clean up after themselves. The room itself is $650. If you know anyone who's looking (preferably female?) please send them my way. I'm doing a little screening for them. More details upon inquiry.</div>

<div>We've all been hearing about the Clinton fans who are threataning to vote for McCain to prove a point. Well, at the end of her speech on Tuesday, HRC asked her followers to email her and let her know what they'd like her to do next.

I say, we take her up on that. Urge her to do what she can to unite the party under Obama for the sake of our country's future.

You can do so on the front of her website - http://www.hillaryclinton.com

Here is what I wrote:

Dear Senator Clinton,

Thank you for taking the time to listen to the voices of your constituents. I know you've worked hard through this campaign, and the tide has not always been in your favor.

You asked at the end of your speech on Tuesday for fans to write in and let you know what they'd like you to do, so that's why I'm here.

As it has become increasingly likely that Obama will be sealing the nomination, I ask that you do what you can to help unite the party behind him. You have incredible power over your support base, and a good percentage of them are angry. So angry that they're willing to sacrifice this election to McCain just to prove a point. Please bring your voice of reason to these folks. Help them see how damaging such a move could be. For the sake of our country's future, I implore you.

Thanks,

COLAGE Applauds Historic California Court Decision

<div>Most of you have heard about the good news of CA Supreme Court's ruling to end the current ban on same sex marriage. For those of you that are looking to celebrate, the SF LGBT Center is throwing a party this afternoon starting around 5pm. More information on that here: http://www.sfcenter.org/marriage.php

The folks over at COLAGE are definitely in a celebratory place today. Check out their statement here:
http://www.colage.org/blog/2008/05/colage_applauds_historic_calif.html

This morning Beth, COLAGE's executive director was out at the courthouse with other LGBT advocates waiting for the results. Apparently, her celabratory reaction was enthralling enough to make it to the cover of the New York Times. Check her out in this picture - http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/16/us/15cnd-marriage.html?_r=1&amp;hp&amp;oref=slogin</div>

<div>Supposedly enacted to prevent voter fraud, the Indiana's Supreme Court decision to require photo ID to vote far more resembles modern a Jim Crow law than anything else.

Poplicks breaks it down thusly:

"The big deal is that 20% of black voters in Indiana do not currently have a valid photo ID.

The big deal is that almost none of the enacted or proposed Voter ID laws provide measures to help voters obtain the necessary identification or offer alternative ways of voting.

The big deal is that these laws are being passed despite no nationwide widespread evidence of fraud caused by voter impersonation. (In Indiana, there was literally not one reported incident of fraud, which the Supreme Court acknowledged.)

The big deal is that our courts seem interested in a nonexistent form of voter fraud, but could not care less about more widespread evidence of voter fraud in Florida (2000), Ohio (2004), or the New York primary (2008)."

And so on. Go read: http://poplicks.com/2008/04/our-generations-jim-crow-laws.html</div>

<div>
Before you know what kindness really is
you must lose things,
feel the future dissolve in a moment
like salt in a weakened broth.
What you held in your hand,
what you counted and carefully saved,
all this must go so you know
how desolate the landscape can be
between the regions of kindness.
How you ride and ride
thinking the bus will never stop,
the passengers eating maize and chicken
will stare out the window forever.

Before you learn the tender gravity of kindness,
you must travel where the Indian in a white poncho
lies dead by the side of the road.
You must see how this could be you,
how he too was someone
who journeyed through the night with plans
and the simple breath that kept him alive.

Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside,
you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing.
You must wake up with sorrow.
You must speak to it till your voice
catches the thread of all sorrows
and you see the size of the cloth.

Then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore,
only kindness that ties your shoes
and sends you out into the day to mail letters and purchase bread,
only kindness that raises its head
from the crowd of the world to say
it is I you have been looking for,
and then goes with you every where
like a shadow or a friend.

Holy L-Boogie, Batman!!

<div>Last night's first ever L-Boogie Day Celebration was a HUGE success!

From set up to take down people were chipping in and showing the love. It was a beautiful thing to be a part of.
The club looked Fabulous, the show was beyond entertaining, the auction was bountiful... really, the whole thing just blew me away.

And the look on fightingwords' face when she arrived to a cheering crowd? Priceless.

There's mountains of gratitude to all the fine folks who contributed, whether financially, through their stage presence, with their attention to detail, or their mad baking skills.
There will be more formal and specific thanks to various folks for their input, but I just wanted to put this out here now.
You guys are AMAZING.
I mean, seriously. How did y'all get to be so damn awesome?

I love the communities i'm a part of. I really do.</div>
