Words of Wisdom

The two most important questions to ask yourself
...and the hardest to answer
...and the ones most people spend their entire lives waiting for someone else to answer for them.
"Who are you?" and "What do you want?"

"Those that speak, do not know, and those that know, do not speak." Lao Tzu

"I am regularly thwarted...but seldom disappointed..." Dilbert (think about it)

“Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.”

"Was there ever a time when the majority was right?"

“No matter where or what, there are makers, takers, and fakers.”

“Learning isn't a means to an end; it is an end in itself.”

"Human beings hardly ever learn from the experience of others. They learn; when they do, which isn't often, on their own, the hard way.”

Ugly Americanisms

If you have an accent in America (and experience of other places) you hear or are told things truely worthy of imbeciles on a regular basis. No, Americans don't have a corner on the market on ignorant citizens, just on those who don't realise "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
I'm going to post some of those things here that I come across personally that make me stop and wonder how some people can walk and chew gum at the same time...

I hear variants of this on a regular basis. (These are also certain to end a date before it starts...and yes I hear them from women my age & older!)
1 "Ooo, your accent is like so cool. Say something Irish!"
2 "Do you dance like that guy from television?"

This one I heard last year when explaining that I don't celebrate Christmas because I'm a Witch. I had to put it up here as it is so priceless...its from the owner of a yoga centre who was in her 50's...and Jewish too!
- "Why should it matter if you're a Witch? That's what's so nice about Christmas. It's the one holiday that people of every race, creed, color, and sexual orientation can come together in a spirit of peace and love to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It's such a shame that some people ruin it by making it all about being Christian y'know."

My Blog

It seems few weeks go by where I am not reminded bu my interactions with mainstream (and sometimes nonmainstream) American society of a paricular entry in a book by Caitlin Matthews

There are three things that spoil wisdom: ignorance, inaccurate knowledge, and forgetfulness.
-ancient Irish triad

Wisdom supports and maintains the universe in every place. Although we now feel that ignorance is largely conquered in our world by better educ... read more

Well is nearing the end of February and I think the new year is finally settling in. Has anyone else noticed the De Domnu seem to bring a good deal more of what you need than what you want? An' bless 'em for it... The Neptune Saturn opposition helped break down things too.

November/December were a big eye opener for me as to a good deal of the less than honourable goings on amogst a number f the members of the "Spiritual" and "Holistic" communities I'd been dealing with. In some places it... read more
