Santa Cruz Blues
ew... nothing spookier than that smell of scorched Earth and the falling ash that covers everything like snow.
So sad... such a beautiful area... people's lives so disrupted. Feel especially bad as I was just visiting there after Tribal Fest. Praying for you guys :-( |

I can smell and taste the smoke in the air way up here on the peninsula. Very scary indeed.

Our local Humane Society Silicon Valley is helping with the animal that were rescued/evacuated. Here's their plea for help they sent out:
Humane Society Silicon Valley Helps Rescue Animals from Summit Fire HSSV has been busy helping local animal shelters care for pets displaced by the fire raging in the Santa Cruz Mountains. On Thursday, HSSV employed a team of animal care technicians and veterinarian technicians to help evacuate and transport horses and other livestock to the fairgrounds where a temporary shelter has been being erected. HSSV employees and volunteers continue to help out at the site by assisting local animal control agencies and shelters in caring for the animals. So far, they’ve helped evacuate about 300 horses and more than 50 dogs and cats. HSSV’s Beth ward, Vice President of Animal and Customer Care, says all animals displaced by the fire and taken to shelters for safekeeping will be kept under protective custody and will not be adopted out. Ward says HSSV has taken in 16 dogs that had been available for adoption at the Scott’s Valley Animal Shelter so the shelter could offer temporary housing for animals displaced from the fire. “By finding homes for these 16 dogs that had already been available for adoption, we help create space for animals in need of temporary shelter due to the fire,” Ward explains. Fire victims who need emergency help transporting an animal or boarding an animal should call 831.454.7303 ext. 1. Anyone who needs help paying for veterinary care or temporary boarding should contact United Animal Nations, which offers grants up to $500 for those services. The agency can be reached at www.uan.org/ or 916.429.2457. Donations of food and blankets can be dropped off at HSSV at 2530 Lafayette Street in Santa Clara. For more information, call 408.727.3383. |

Thanks!!!
for posting this important information Stacy!
Things seem to be getting better - as of last night they had the fire 25% contained - the Goddess is doing her part to help by bringing cooler weather, lighter winds and fog - helping the firefighters get more control over the blaze. |
