<div>THIS IS A LONG ASS POST > > > only read it if you dare. it's my comment to Traci for trying to call out my friends Jessie and Luna for venting on their personal blogs.
-------------------------------------------
This is Traci (obi's BLOG. brought to my attention by LUNA)
For those of you who may not know, my best friend and dance partner, Nari, is someone I've known for over 12 years. We've shared good times, bad times, she was there when my son was born, I'll be in her wedding, etc etc.

Like many others who have friendships that are filled with love, we went through a period of time where we weren't friends...we both had our own demons to deal with, we transferred our personal issues as faults of the other and , being human, we said things to others that weren't always complete truth. This happens in famiies, marriages, heck-any relationship that is made up of more than one person...we've ALL been there.

Now that "the Dark Time" is past, we've rediscovered how much we mean to one another and have once again, formed a dance partnership.

However, when we decided "hey we really want to dance as a duet", she was in another troupe. But she wanted to go in a different direction from the other three dancers and so when she told them she was leaving the troupe, they said they weren't surprised by it and one of them even told Nari "Hey you need to follow your ART".

Why am I blogging about this you ask? Because these former troupemates of Nari's are waging a full out cyber harrassment of her. Everywhere she posts, they have to say something..even when it isn't in response to anything THEY say, they have to post. They have created malicious blogs about her, posted some incredibly passive (and not so passive) aggressive posts aimed at her....and without actually speaking her name, they have made it blatantly obvious they are speaking ABOUT her.

in the above pic, she covered up my partner's image........

To those girls, I am saying-STOP. THIS. NOW. What you are doing is ugly, underhanded and pointless. It's also against the law under the Penal Code for harrassment and cyber harrassment.

To address these girls directly:
*you say I have no idea what was said about me during the "Dark Time".. Actually I do know what was said, and I was guilty of saying some not so nice things myself.
Also, I don't need you "fighting my fight" for me. None of you girls even KNOW me! I didn't ask for you to be the "outers" to anything that happened, what, a YEAR ago?!

I'm saying you need to stop this NOW. You've been asked nicely, Nari has taken the high road and not addressed you or your "claims"....it's juvenile and it needs to end before legal measures are taken. I will only address this drama with the authorities if necessary.

-------------------------------------------
This is my comment. Which i also posted at the end of her blog.

Traci,

neither Luna nor Jessie (whose posts you linked to) claim that these posts are about YOU or Melany. And people are allowed to VENT. And people CHOOSE what they read. You've got people who don't even know us thinking we are HATERS or something.

And the photo where Jess covers Melany's face isn't slandering. Jessie never liked dressing as a "twinkie" with another dancer. Look at our costumes. We are NEVER dressed alike. We each have too much style for that.

We all need to get over it.

Mel's not in Nah'na. There is no Nah'na. She left and we were more than happy to get on with our projects as much as she was happy to re-unite with you.

And any animosity that people have is their business. I know you probably still have alot to say and I am sure I do too.

But seriously, this is getting old. I mean, can't we all just get along? (hahaha! sorry, had to say it). I mean, let's say this shit in person so we can really talk SOME MAD SHIT, get over it and then see each other at the next event and i don't have to try and talk to Mel only to have her shy aways from me again.

Fuck, i know this scene is a bunch of bitchy women, but we ALL NEED to just let it go away so the next drama can happen and everyone can gasp at that bullshit.

Thanks ladies.

love,

Zombie MOVIE update . . .

<div>in my quest to see every Zombie movie ever made (this year!) i have seen two new ones this past week :: Zombie Strippers and I, Zombie

Zombie Strippers not only had excellent use of Zombie make-up, Jenna Jamison (i don't know how to spell her last name right) was a fucking TOP NOTCH zombie . . . stripper. HOT. for reals. the gore was good, the zombies were good, the tits and ass were excellent. good film! a fabulous comedy with great horror, gore, great dancing (blows any skilled stripper i have ever seen), and silly but effective, uhm, special effects.

I, Zombie was alright. well, it was good. the gore was excellent, the death and decay was extremely well done, but it was such a fucking SAPPY movie. zombie as a concious human decaying away with a hunger for human flesh . . . its was sappy.
but on a cool note, the character made sure to masturbate twice in the movie and to my happy expectations pulled his penis right off! i have always wanted to see this in a zombie movie! now that's a good zombie scene! but it was sappy and sensitive with
great gore.

next on the list is :: Fido

the end.</div>

SHORT-LIST OF 15 FINALISTS ANNOUNCED FOR ARTADIA AWARDS 2008 IN HOUSTON

New York, NY – The exceptional diversity and range of artists living and working in Houston was evident as three internationally prominent jurors selected the 15 Artadia Awards Finalists for this year's Houston Awards Cycle. Jurors Franklin Sirmans (Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, The Menil Collection), Sue de Beer (artist, New York and Berlin), and Mark Bessire (Director, Bates College Museum of Art) named the finalists out of a record-number of more than 200 applications for the fourth Artadia Awards in Houston.

The 15 Artadia Awards Finalists are: Mequitta Ahuja, Dawolu Anderson, Sasha Dela, Katherine Heinlein, Lauren Kelley, El Franco Lee, Mary Magsamen &amp; Stephan Hillerbrand, Lynne McCabe, Delilah Montoya, Katrina Moorhead, Floyd Newsum, Jr., Phillip Perez, Stephanie Toppin, Yvonne Torres (&amp;lt;--YET!!!), and Gabriela Trzebinski.

Applications for the Artadia Awards were open to visual artists in all media and at any stage of their career working and living in Harris County, Texas. The application was available online for ten weeks from January 1, 2008 to March 15, 2008. A total number of 210 applications were received in response to the open call to Houston artists.

Jennifer Gross (Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Yale University), Christopher Eamon (Curator, Pamela and Richard Kramlich Collection, and Executive Director, New Art Trust), and Franklin Sirmans will visit Houston for the final jury/studio visits next month from Thursday, May 15 through Saturday, May 17, 2008. The jury will then name three artists for $15,000 awards and seven artists for $1,500 awards. The list of 10 Artadia Awardees will be announced by the end of May. An exhibition of the Awardees is scheduled for 2009 and will be accompanied by a fully-illustrated catalogue to commemorate the Artadia Awards and exhibition.

Christopher Vroom, Artadia Founder and Board President, says about Artadia's Houston Awards program: "It is particularly gratifying to be a part of Houston 's vibrant cultural community at a time of vigorous civic debate. The artists selected for this year's Artadia Awards Short List exemplify the diversity of artistic practice and perspective that makes ours a great society. They underscore the varied roles that artists play in our communities–their practice, their viewpoint, and their deep engagement in civic and educational life not only help us see the world in new ways but make us want to be involved in a positive way. It is a great gift indeed."

Of the jury process Franklin Sirmans said: "Working with Sue, Mark, and the Artadia team, we selected one snapshot of a much bigger community of artists. Testament to the quality of the art, the decisions were difficult and many of the artists not selected at this time either had been in the past or certainly would be in the future. We tried to be mindful of the many different kinds of art being made in Houston."

Artadia has long-standing close relationships with the local foundations and private patrons of the arts who recognize the importance of unrestricted funding to visual artists at the local level. Houston partners include DiverseWorks Artspace, which has hosted the Artadia Awards exhibitions in the past, as well as the Lawndale Center for the Arts, where Artadia held this year's well-attended information session in February. The Artadia Awards 2008 Houston are generously supported by the Houston Endowment, Inc., numerous generous individuals, and the Artadia Board. In addition to Houston, Artadia administers successful programs and awards in Boston, San Francisco, and Chicago.</div>

Each member of the troupe contributes her individual vision and style to every choreography and combination, every costume and storyline. Difficult to label or classify, we create truly unique pieces influenced by various periods of dance and art. We are equally influenced by carnivale, vaudeville, ballet, jazz, hip hop, Romani, Avant Garde, cabaret, traditional Middle Eastern dance, ATS, modern dance, theater and the visual arts.

<div>BBAP &amp; Spacetaker Present: The Artist Saloon.
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 at 6:30pm
Winter Street Studios, 2101 Winter Street, Houston, Texas

This month BBAP &amp; Spacetaker, in conjunction with Winter Street Studios, present Brian Piana, YET Torres, and Sasha West in the December edition of The Artist Saloon.

Every third Wednesday of the month, the salon and the saloon meet at The Artist Saloon where artists and art aficionados gather for drinks and casual conversation about art. Two to three artists from varying disciplines (visual, performing, literary, etc.) present, in an informal atmosphere, creative dialogs/talks/presentations about their work followed by a question and answer session where the audience can glean further insight into the artist, the artist's aesthetic and creative process. The evening is designed not only to bring together artists and those who appreciate the arts, but also to introduce local artists to each other to encourage conversation and cross-disciplinary pollination between artists and their chosen media.

This month's featured artists:

Brian Piana
YET Torres
Sasha West

    </a>
										<div>ISSUE ONE:

The battery to my phone died today. Do you know how much that fucking sucks? I am unsure if I have lost every number that I had, as I have not a single one memorized. I am dealing with it tomorrow. I have other things that I must deal with today.

Soooo, as of today I am phoneless. If you need to get ahold of me email me at YET.Torres@gmail.com OR through one of my two myspace pages. YOUR PICK! Send me love, phone numbers, addresses, and money if you are so inclined. I could be without a phone for a day or a week. You never know . . .

ISSUE TWO:

I will be having another show of my artwork in December at the Lawndale Art Center. Yeah me! The opening will be December 9th. Again, if you don't already get bombarded with my event emails please feel free to shoot me an email at the above email addy for my updates, venting and overall bullshit. haha! you all know what i mean . . .

ISSUE THREE (just realized i have one!):

I will be performing a bit in December with two of the dance troupes that I belong to: Gypsy Sister and Tribal Lillies. I am usually not one to let anyone know if and when I am performing, but I realize how excited I am to be part of these two groups and how amazing the friendships and experience and growth are it has given me. My idea for my life here in Houston is based on my devotion to working as a visual artist and to my study of tribal style belly dance (and all that encompasses!). So I am excited at the opportunities that have arisen for me to dance.

this is how i feel today . . . this is a LONG ASS BLOG

<div>Today is Friday, September 29, 2006. I am feeling quite thoughtful today . . . and quite pissed off as well. For no reason, really, except that this is simply how I feel at this moment. I WANT to say that I have been doing everything I can to accomplish my tasks. Then I realize that what I have been doing is allowing myself to EXPERIENCE. I felt the need to read over several of my old blogs, due to a questioning of my choices. And for the sheer fact that I forget (sometimes) the extent of the shit I have allowed myself to go through in the last year and a half. I realize that I have left the feelings and ideas of "being broken" and have tried to embrace the fact that I have a lot of (let's call it LOVE) love to give.

I think that I am challenged. I think that I have to let all my muses go. Well, except for Matthew, of course. He has to stay.

And this is when I realize that my fucking mind put me back into a place that I don't really want to be. It's not a bad place, really. If I look at all the things I was doing BEFORE I think I'm fairly better off. I mean, I am no longer balancing attention with boredom and my own amusements in promiscuity, etc. etc. I am not living life like I had since I left Aaron. Although the inspiration is there, the players are there, the way it once moved me isn't . . . I think I am ready to let that and the other sources FUCKING GO. False muses, right? Because I have to say that my meeting Matthew back in June of this year ALLOWED me to let the other two back in. Even though neither wanted in but didn't really want to be LET GO either. Fucking people . . . really?!? And they know it, because I tell them and they know they drive me mad and that I take them in as my breath. But now I'm fucking TIRED of it and I am ready to let go. And I am sure that although we're cool, they are probably tired of it too. And no one is really worth entering my artwork right now. NO ONE. I realized this today.

As I said I was looking over my (MYSPACE) blogs this afternoon and I wanted to put it out here, for all who are actually bothering to read this, to share this bullshit of my life with me . . . to put out these things about ME that I embrace but forgot. The way I was when I wrote these things is not necessarily who I am now. I mean, of course I am the same person. However, I have healed in a lot of ways and have WORKED THROUGH the shit that made me need to have my MUSES in the first place. FUCKERS! Hahaha!

Check this out! I am condensing some of it and entering my current thoughts:

I wrote this on Thursday, March 30, 2006

(6 months ago from TODAY, 16 months after I left my 6 ½ year relationship with Aaron. I was living at the Chapman House at the time with Dan)

"I was driving home several days ago and was thinking about how bored I am. This is a given. I am on stop, on idle . . . looking for the next thing to be passionate about."

(This is where I am again . . . looking for SOMETHING to be passionate about, to parallel my work. I find inspiration in myself . . . but I am a passionate person who at the moments feels a lack of fucking passion . . . that's it! and now i have to regain it within myself . . . all . . . over . . . again!)

"I was also thinking about how my life has been in the last year and how I can count at least five guys that I was involved with last year, each of which was in a relationship. FIVE. And that is only who I can remember bc I fucking know there were more! More men that each and every time I gave into them I was allowing myself to fuck over some girl that I didn't know nor could give even a slight SHIT about! And I remember all my thoughts and discussions and confusion and emptiness and fulfillment from spending the larger portion of last year being the other woman. I think I actually got really good at it, sad to say. Maybe that is why I am currently broken."

(YES. I did this. I don't necessarily do it anymore, but I had a run . . . and I fucking BROKE a couple months ago. I don't intent to be broken EVER again!)

This is 3 months or so before I met my muse, whose existence simply allowed me to bring my faith back to a physical place. And this is what allowed my artwork to re-flourish into what you see today.

Here's another one that I have to share . . .

I wrote this on Tuesday, June 13, 2006

(By this time I had met Matthew)

"i feel as though i'm passing my time in the most ridiculous ways. i feel as though what i am doing with my art and dance and life is finding something to be passionate about as my life lacks the things that i need to exist. i have been spurred to create based on my love for "enter receiver of my love here" . . . i am grasping onto the ideas of attention, love, passion and my own musings. do i love any of them? do i love any of you? probably . . . yes? i don't even fucking know.

what i do know is that whatever it is i am putting into my head, whatever i am making myself believe to push myself to create is false. it's all fucking FALSE. i am validating my actions for my own amusement by finding existence in false muses . . ."

(I put too much weight on people. What can I do . . . that's how I roll!)

"and it may take a while, but i intend to win. always.

YET: "I am determined to make him fall in love with me. That is my goal."
MATT: "What happens when he falls in love with you?"
YET: "Nothing . . . "
MATT: "Hahahaha. That's what I love about you, YET. You do these things for your own amusement."
YET: "Ahhhhhhhhhh! That's exactly what I've been trying to tell people! No matter what, it's all for me."

I take people into my life, not all of them, but some, as projects. And I'm telling you . . . my goal is to make him fall in love with me. My latest project, my little muse. It may take a year and I'm willing to work on it, to push it and mold it and create this feeling. Oh believe me, if I work well with the supplies and emotions that are driving me to do these things . . . it WILL HAPPEN.

just so long as i don't lose interest . . . "

(And it has happened and we share magick and we are friends. And he is safe because he is far, far away. )

I know that there was a point to me writing all of this. However, I can't even think of what it is right now. I think that I just needed to vent . . .

<div>The event that I am participating in at The Cotton Exchange has been moved from Oct. 1st to Sunday, October 15th.

This is the first night that this event is taking place and there has been some complications with the promoting and other things.

All I am hoping is that they don't cut the featured artist portion of the event because that would FUCKING SUCK!

haha!

LOVE YOU all!

    </a>
										<div>Update on the Artist’s sanity . . .

THREE VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1. I currently have a piece called “Atlas of Inbred Anatomy” up at the Art Car Museum. It is part of a show called Calacas and is focused primarily on artwork with BONES as part of the subject matter. The show is running Sept. 9th to November 5th.

2. I submitted three pieces into a juried exhibition of Works in Fiber. Two cyanotypes and a dress that I designed and constructed were all accepted into the show. It is at the Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake and is in association with the Houston Area Fiber Artists (HAFA). The show is running Sept. 21st to Oct. 26th. The opening is on Thursday, Sept. 28th. I’ll be there for two seconds as I typically cocktail on Thursday nights.

3. I am going to be part of an event at the Cotton Exchange Bar &amp; Lounge in downtown Houston, TX. I am going to be the FEATURED ARTIST for the event. I believe that the work will be up for the showcase only. However, I am VERY EXCITED because this will be the first showing of my current work, The CATNIP &amp; CARNIE COLLECTION.

This event is going to be from 7pm until midnight on October 1st. If you live in Houston PLEASE come to this event. I would love to see you and I want everyone to see this new body of work. It drives me fucking crazy!

Today is September 20th, 2006. I have lived in Houston for almost 9 weeks. I have returned to the Dallas area only once to study. I don’t want to make this too long an email soooo . . . just know that I am well. I am still studying dance and am in the process of joining a troupe in Houston called Gypsy Sisters, the sister troupe of Urban Gypsy. This is exciting shit people! I promise you.

My family is well, my brother is well, my sanity is stable, my artwork is amazing, my inspiration is always flowing (both CATNIP &amp; the CARNIEs) . . .

The End.
