Yet another fun evening at the Vagabond this weekend: First, cool costuming experience. I had gained a few pounds (see the previous entry for one of the contributing factors ...), and I decided to try out my recently acquired belly net. At first, it felt odd, but by combining it with a crochet scarf as shoulder cover, all of a sudden, I had fashioned a cool, very flattering dress out of my existing costume collection. I need to get more of those belly covers, I want to cover one with sparklie...

Vincent is off to FLAIRS (Florida Artificial Intelligence Research Symposium - a series of mini conferences, obviously in Florida), I decided to stay at home - it is the most delightful weather of the year in the Burgh, and rain in Florida. The cat and I enjoy the deck - I am watching my Odd Couple DVDs (I have a very unhealthy obsession with sitcoms featuring pompous characters), while I am enjoying margaritas, she watches the bird feeder. I don't have to cook, I can dip my finger in mayonna...

Saturday, I had an urge for pierogies, and went to the Strip. Unfortunately, the church on Smallman didn't have pierogi day :-( They have awesome pierogies, but I think they are doing that every two weeks only. I still enjoyed the farmer's market and of course the hustle and bustle.

I stopped at a vendor who makes and sells coin jewelry. In one of my brighter moments, I asked her for double-drilled copper coins for my coin costume, and next week, I will get them! I am psyched, I get somet... read more
Last weekend, I went to D.C. for the Herdeljezi festival, which celebrates St. George, the patron saint of the Roma (and, equestrians). I stayed with a mighty fun and cool dancer, who had generously offered me shelter, even though we had only met very briefly. As it turns out, she is a very interesting and smart lady, who shares a lot of interests with me - e.g., she had one of the cookbooks I had been interested in for years on her counter! We talked and had wine and looked at her costumes a...

I am not a movie goer, instead, I love my sitcoms. But, just saw the most awesome movie commerical on TV: Julie and Julia, after the not-so-hot book with the same name. I squeaked out loud in delight when I saw Meryl Streep doing a delightfully over-the-top Julia Child - OMG! It was incredibly funny, I can not wait for this movie, that is so awesome. Weeee!!!! Vincent suggested - Jack Nicholson as Jacques Pepin.

Re: dancerfolk who have gone to Pennsic -- what did you make/wear?
(in Tribal Costuming)
Well, chances are that one will not get kicked out of Pennsic if one wears very obviously non-period garb ;-) But, at the same time, people will notice. Do not assume just because there are many dancers in tribal gear, that that is an accepted out...

First, even though Zafira are seasoned Pennsic veterans, incredible dancers with a terrific sense of style, and most importantly, wonderful women,it may not be the best idea to use their stage costumes as examples for what to wear at Pennsic. Inst...
