Many of you have heard about the Mayan Calendar and the 2012 prophecies. Today, July 25, is an important day in the Mayan calendar - the "Day Out of Time" and tomorrow is the first day of the new Mayan year. The Mayan calendar is built around a 13-month cycle, each month has exactly 28 days which totals to an overall 364 days. The last day of the year is left out of this count and therefore is "out of time". This day is considered an opportunity for a big change: purification and healing, for forgiveness and atonement, acheiving peace, and relating to life as art. It may also be a great time to clarify our understanding, focus on direction and create a major shift. Interestingly, this day falls within a very important period of 3 weeks in the Jewish Calendar known as "Bein Hametzarim", which literaly means between the days of distress referring to the days of the fall of the wall in Jerusalem at the time of the temple and the day when the temple was captured and destroyed. The days in time in between these are considered days of mourning but also of great energy and opportunity for a major shift. From an astorological perpective we are in the end of a month of Cancer which is consdered very challenging, but today a change may be signaled by the waning moon and transiting Sun in Leo. Leo's vision gives us the ability to turn ideas into reality and brings a great energy to connect with your mission and purpose in life.

A crucial moment in my life

I wanted to write this blog for a while now but kept delaying. I was going to tell you the story of my life :) but as I started I realized this is going to be far too long to do here. So instead I'll just tell you the bad news - I'm going to be leaving this country by end of August! To make a long story short, I have a university position back in Israel (I've not been talking much about this aspect of my life so most of you don't know this) and I came here for a two year period that's about to end. For a while I was really hoping to extend that but now it's clear that's not possible and so I won't have the appropriate visa status to stay here long term. The fact that I have to leave makes me really sad because I truly feel that for the first time in my life I found a family of people I love and share a lot in common with, people who share a love of life, art and care for the future of the world and human kind. Although I did not get to spend much time with most of you, I feel that I know many of you as I have met you in situations when you were who you really are - and I love each and every one of you. These last two years have caused a dramatic change in my life, perhaps most notably because I've got interested in spiritual experiences, conscious living and activism. I am now standing in a crossroad where I'm seriously considering making the biggest change in my life - I am considering quitting my (prestigious tenured) job in Israel (which has been kept for me) so I can travel the world for a period of a year, something I always wanted to do but never done. The problem is that as I get back it might not be possible for me to get a similar position again. As you may expect, all voices of reason around me are trying to firmly pull me away from doing that. I'd really appreciate to hear from you. I'm definitely going to miss you all. p.s. If you can come to Elysium that may be a good last opportuinty to hang out with me before I leave. Also, if you want to spend some time with me in the following couple of months just call or drop me a line and I promise to find the time. As a final note, this will definitely not be to last time you see me I will do my best to come back for visits and participate in events.

The Beginning of the End ?

And so as we go about our normal life, and keep having little silly discussions on tribe, something really big is threatening to shatter our worlds. In today's financial news: "Crude-oil futures have strung together a history-making over 10% two-day price run, and at the same time payrolls contraction creates biggest jobless rise since 1975." This indicates economic markets are facing the dreadful "staglation", a condition of simultaenous high inflation and weak economic growth, and the U.S. financial markets are sinking towards what seems like one of the worst days in recent history. Is the the U.S. economy (and therefore the world's economy) heading to recession, dare I say despression ? What does that mean to all of us ? Are you ready ? How do you think you would personally be able handle such harsh developments ?

Plato's Allegory of the Cave: Are you in the Matrix ?

Do you believe that our experience of the world is real or do you think we're inside some kind of "Matrix" and it's all some grand illusion ? Around 400 BC Plato described his version of the "Matrix" in what's known as the "Allegory of the Cave": Imagine human beings living underground as prisoners who have been chained since their childhood deep inside a cave: not only are their arms and legs unmovable because of chains; their heads are chained in one direction as well so that their gaze is fixed on a wall. Behind the prisoners is an enormous fire, and between the fire and the prisoners is a raised walkway, along which puppets of various animals, plants, and other things are moved along. The puppets cast shadows on the wall, and the prisoners watch these shadows. The prisoners are unable to see these puppets, the real objects, that pass behind them. What the prisoners see and hear are shadows and echoes cast by objects that they do not see. The prisoners would mistake appearance for reality. They would think the things they see on the wall (the shadows) were real; they would know nothing of the real causes of the shadows. One day a prisoner is released and compelled to stand up and turn around. At that moment his eyes will be blinded by the sunlight coming into the cave from its entrance, and the shapes passing by will appear less real than their shadows. Assuming the released prisoner has the inner strength to explore the real world outside of the cave he will eventually realize the false reality in which he lived before. Once enlightened, so to speak, the freed prisoner would be complled to return to the cave to free "his fellow bondsmen". However, most of the other prisoners would not want to be freed: most would not believe the "new" reality and would see the freed prisoner as delusional. The allegory of the cave has many parallels to the modern idea portrayed in the movie "The Matrix". There are many questions that may be asked here. Perhaps the most obvious one is: can we really know that indeed that freed prisoner is not delusional ? Even if he is seeing "reality" why wouldn't that not be just another more ellaborate illusion ? Do you think you're in the Matrix ? If you are in the the Matrix, what's your take on what it is ? Do you think things are changing or going to change dramatically in the near future ? Is it really possible to manipulate the matrix and if so are there still rules for how it may be manipulated ? Is it just another illusion then ?

The last few weeks have brought the world two of the greatest natural catasrtophes of the last few years. With the cyclone in Burma claiming over 130,000 dead, and two major earthquakes in China, with dead toll approaching 50,000, affecting millions of people injured, hungry for food, and out of home, and children who lost their parents. Let's find the place in our heart to help them. As much as our lives may be difficult, or financial situation may be harsh, there is no comparison with what the victims of these disasters are going through. If each of us would give just a few bucks, the worth of one drink, we could literally save lives! You all well know that there have been predictions from many different sources that more natural disasters may be upon our planet in the next few years. Some day we may be the victims too (although I do wish you that day will never come) and we would wish that others will be there to help us. Time to be a Star of the Tribe!

It's been a few months since tribe requested our support in the form of premium membership. It appears that our contribution is essential for tribe's continued operation. When I first wrote this blog I was under the impression that tribe has overcome the frequest crashes and maintainance time. If you remember there was a time just when this started when tribe was down feeding us with "donuts" for hours almost every day. Unfirtunately, since I wrote the blog there have been a surge in down time so apparently those "happy" donut days seem far from gone. This gives is all the more reason to support tribe so they can improve their platform and service. I think tribe deserves our support. It has been serving a crucial part in building our community and letting us stay connected in a safe and supporting environment, allowing us to be tuned to each others words, to know and inform others of events, and just play and have fun when we are bored at work. Some of you already know I think highly of the ideas of Eckhart Tolle, mostly expressed in his two books: "The Power of Now", and "A New Earth". His ideas have influeced me a lot and helped me make significant leaps in my spiritual exploration. For a while now I wanted to write a blog summarizing some of the ideas that I've learnt, but I've been delaying it mostly for lack of time as I'm spending more and more time lately learning and doing. Perhaps I will still write that blog sometime soon, but I do strongly recommend reading his books and other material that's out there. Another source that I really liked are his 2 DVDs: "The Flowering of Human Consciousness" recording his lecture on the Power of Now. You can get them on Netflix. Universe's paradox: the more you give the more you have

At some point early in our life we are tought to be selfish - to fight for our survival in the cruel world of selfishness... Oh, what a great lie we were told!!! Cause the paradox of this universe is that when you give to others it gives you back ten folds! This one universal law is very simple: * Giving to others = Giving to yourself * Cause there are no others - there's only ONE. So, keep this in mind next time you have an opportunity to do something for someone else, even someone you don't know, a homeless in the street, a deserted dog, anyone, anywhere, give, donnate, share, love! And you will see how the universe smiles back at you! :))

On LunarSun, Psy Music, John Lennon and the Universe

LunarSun was a very special event. Deep in the Mojave desert at equinox, in a place and time where the moon and the sun can both shine together. When I got to the party I realized that is was not a coincidence that most of my friends chose not to be there, because this event was not for everyone. Well, don't get me wrong there were hunderds of people at the event far more than we planned for but only few of the people I usually hang out with in Burner parties. You could blame the music (psytrance, and I've got something to say about this) or the fact that there was a bunch of other events that weekend, but it is clear to me that there's something more to it - each of us is destined to be where he needs to be, and it was very clear that I was meant to be there that night. The moment I stepped into the desert it was clear there is nowhere else to be. What other event, party, man made venue could compare to this incredible magical stage ? As I drive into the desert I turned my radio to find out that there is a "desert radio" and on it this song was playing: "And we all shine on like the moon and the stars and the sun", this universe is made of incredible coincidences, like the moon and the stars and the sun that all shine on the right perfect space and intensity, as we do too. As I got to the gathering I recognized another interesting coincidence. In there stood a door, a door that the Terrakroma people brought to the desert. Well, earlier that evening I went to a film festival in LA which screened the film "You can heal your life" telling the story of Louise Hay, and in the film there was a women going though a very similar looking door to change her life. Back to reality, I got there just in time to see the Unifier giving one of their most fun performances. I've seen them giving spectacular shows before but this time I could see how much fun they had doing it and it showed! It was absolutely fabulous as you can see in the pics I posted. I love the Unifiers not only they are incredible fire performers and artists but really beautiful souls. I think it is not a coincidence that some of the best fire performers are also highly conscious beings. It goes together. If you speak to Rif he will tell you. Rif was also there and I know he's one of those few who did not fully connect with the vibe, well there may be good reasons but there also reasons to open up to it. As the Terrakroma crew arrived to the party completely exauhsted, we did not get all of the chill out areas set up in time (2 out of 4 got done) and the TK people were not much around on Friday night, and their energy was missing. The nights weren't easy to swallow, which is in part why it wasn't for anyone. It was freezing cold and the party mainly gathered around the fire (or in sleeping bags..). That made the night vibe much different than the usual gathering. It's hard to connect to it since it appears not very social, especially if you are new to it. But once you took the time to relax and meet the people you could see what wonderful people came to this gathering. As the sun came out and warmth filled the air the vibe has completely transformed as well into this happy festival of dance and play. There were so many talented spinners and hoopers around, and the dancefloor filled up quickly. The second night is where things got interesting. The music was now changed to psytrance, and in fact dark psytrance by Mindfull. Well, I know this pretty clear - this is not for everyone. Not because of the "I don't like psytrance" cliche, but because there is a reason you don't like psytrance - this music is not called psy for nothing - it plugs straight into your brain - like a drug - and by transmitting vibrations it alters your state - like a drug. If your mind is not open for using a certain drug - you can have a fucked up experience, if your mind is not open to be tuned to psytrance - it can feel like your head goes through an attack. But when you are in tune with it - you can feel - it is the most perfect music there is. It is not a coincidence that other types of music incorporate those sounds - they also plug into your brain - but they are like soft drugs. This is hardcore! The Mindfull parties are usually accompanied by a group called Xlr8r who are performing some ritual making the fire, which apparently is said to have something to do with aliens... * correction: I was notified that in this party a different group conducted the fire ritual and the original Xlr8r were not present). Well, it's pretty weird but the fire they construct is kinda cool when you get used to the idea and it kinda goes with the music. I've been to their party last year and did not connect to it, this time I believe I had one of my best musical experiences ever. There were a few incidents that night. Mostly, some that have to do with people using certain "enhancements" irresponsibly. I believe a couple had bad trips. But the main tragedy of the night was a girl who was in altered state and could not tell it's difference from reality. She got into her car and hit another girl. That girl who was hit is recovering well now. This incident shook all of us and we now started a discussion on personal responsibility: http://tribes.tribe.net/terrakroma Substance abuse incidents happened in other burner events as well, and I think that we should open such a discussion in a larger forum as well. I see this as an alarm call from the universe, as were other accidents that happened recently in our communities. It's caling us to raise our awareness. As the sun rose again we had our second simultaneous Lunar-Sun view exsperience as the carnival vibe returned once again, and even with the dark psytrance it was the best fun times of the party! Later on the music changed to melodic eclectic sounds that were heavenly beautiful! Perhaps my favorite part of the experience was the closing drum ceremony, it was so beautiful and inspiring (you can see it in the pics I posted of the event). There were definitely unusual aspects of this party - some weird, perhaps dark - but without doubt it was filled with magic that went far beyond those and filled our hearts with light and enlightment. So many people have written feedbacks about the party, some saying it was one of the most memorable weekends of their life. With even just few of these accounts I can't but acknowledge that there was something special in this place, time and energy that created this magic. Thanks so much for the beautiful people of Terrakroma, Mindfull and everyone else who were involved in making this party, to Unifier for their incredible performance and thank all of you who came and made this event what it was with your beautiful and loving energy! In the city people climbed into their cars and loaded exactly what they needed and nothing more into the trunk before heading out. The destination was not on any map and nor will it ever be. For many of us the first thing to greet us was the music, ephemeral and playful. Music, much like our individual souls is much clearer in the desert. On the first night of a two night gathering I could still feel the city and all of its' silent demands resting upon my shoulder like a proverbial eight hundred pound gorilla. Slowly, yet surely; the desert night had it's way with those phantom nothings and a feeling of deep peace began to settle into its' rightful place in the grander scheme of us. Assembling then with the not-so-random crowd around a sacred bonfire tended to by artisans who'd found their art and shared it with family in the guise of radiant warmth. Not too far away an assembled crowd danced with heartfelt abandon. Then came the eternal disagreement between night and day. The grey night gave way to blue and so it was and so it ever shall be, at least until the feet of human doings like us continue to stomp out that beat-less staccato on desert floors in desert lands that are littered with those who look for answers without asking any questions. As the sun begins it's rise, the virgin rays of a new day make themselves known as reflections that shine off of toothy smiles and warm the chestnut brown of an unexpected goddess as she becomes one with the sine waves emanating outward… ever outward until they stand still and fall into the desert sand; there they shall remain for future generations to dance upon and do with as they please. "You've got a symphony inside of you." A voice called out as they walked through a doorway that stood starkly outlined in the morning everythingness. Through that doorway the observer went without hesitation; passing into some dimension that only the observer was intimately familiar with. I applauded silently… go… go… go! A flame was born in the next instant, beautiful, temporarl and powerful. The flame's attendant somehow positioned herself below that burning moment. She then began a slow and sensuous dance, moving like a rope unwinding. Her, the fire, the morning sky without beginning or end. Another display of simply IS. As IS is known to do, all eyes were pulled towards the flame, towards the beauty underneath towards the possibilities of the day at hand. Smiles and knowing glances mingled and bowed to one another as the dance enveloped all participants in a conflagration of visible beauty. The desert silently approved in its' own eternal language. As good normally gets better so too did the tempo of the gathering begin to shift and change. The Sun's rays began to warm. The last of the tension in the muscles of those who held tense against the night's chill began to ease. The desert and Her attendants began to have their way with us at last. In that space it is harder to keep your feet in one place than it is to dance. The purest form of all art, music!- sings to the true poets, seekers and sycophants, they strive to explain the secrets of their universe in the mechanics of bodies which move like liquid art, shuffling, stamping, circling and praising that which comes out of the impossible stack of subs and mids. The D.J. becomes the high priest, we his minions, gladly we all form into a communion of motion. There are no tomorrows and no yesterdays only that sinuous beat which raps it's playful meter upon us, leaving a deep impression upon the shoestrings of our souls. Through dance we reach for the life within us, as if we could see the universe laid bare with our naked eyes. It was in that moment that I began to think of all the sunshine which had gone into making this dancefloor. Centuries… eons of gentle pounding by the sun and moon had provided for us a place to dance and commune. As like attracts like, somehow the thought arose that we are but sunlight too and that it is our honor and privilege to worship with dance and our duty to smile as often as we can. Anonym-us

Well, obviously the answer is complex but in its essense there's a simple truth. Fuente Eterno, is the fountain of the eternal, gives us much of what life is about. It provides with the simplest answers, or perhaps just reassurances of the simple facts of the universe that we all already know deep inside. The fact that all of this is out there for us to experience, to love and enjoy. We tend to forget this, caught up in the burdens of life, and yes, there's more to life than just this, there is learning, creating, discovering and enlightening but in the end it all serves one purpose: increasing the love and joyfullness of life, and if we forget that then we're missing on the true essence of life. Love and enjoyment – not of a nihilistic kind but of true deep form. This is so easy to forget but we should make sure we never do: This is all made out of love so we can experience love, share and spread love and make love. It is all created so we can have fun, enjoy beauty, excitement, laughter. Ultimately it is made for us to enjoy everything that there is, without reservations, with no limits. Green LA wants YOU!

This is an incredible new initiative from my friends to create a network of environmentally conscious people and companies that are interested in making a positive impact toward greening LA. Check out the website: http://www.green-la.com/ We are now making a documentary composed of interviews of people who are interested in environmental issues. The short film will be presented in a couple of weeks at an upcoming film festival. We would like to interview both people actively involved in environmental improvement as well as people merely interested in the subject who would like to share their perspective on these issues. Filming will take place this upcoming Sunday between 12:00 and 18:00 (if that doesn't work for you let us know). Hello to all the wonderful people who attended the first Concious Movie Party event last Sat @ the Sugar Shack! We, the Sugar Shack, and the entire Terrakroma crew would like to thanks you so much for joining us for this very special event! I've posted some pics from the event. We all feel that the event was absolutely wonderful and we already received incredible feedback from some of you. Most people who RSVPd for the event indeed came and even more impressive most came for the whole deal of dinner/movie/party. The vibes and energies were of the best I ever personally remember in a party. This is mostly because of all the beautiful people who were there to make the event what is was! It was not an easy event to coordinate. One thing that made things a bit more difficult was the particular choice of the movie that was both highly contraversial, long and we also had some sound issues. Despite that we had great attendance, awesome energies, excellent conversations, and we feel that people really appreciated the concept and had a great time! My friend Byran could tell you a cool story: at some point after the movie ended he left to check out the Vanguard. He quickly came back all excited about how great the party was compared to what he experienced there... hehe! We all feel that this event has indeed created something a little different in the way people were able to communicate and get to know each other while still have a light and fun athmosphere, which is really what we envisioned. One thing we would have liked to have but did not in the end is a group discussion of the movie. We decided to skip it in favor of the party due to the late time in which we finished watching the movie (as you know we started an hour later than planned). But still I know many people have many great discussions following the movie and some kept thinking about it later on. If this made a change for just a few of us than we already achieved something. So you ask what's in for us in the future ? We hope to have more of these! We like the general format. In the future we'll try to mix it up as to choosing the movies with all kind of different movies, from film dealing with spiritual and conscious theries and experiences, to films about nature, environment awareness, and social awareness, and others. For the first time ever, NASA will beam a song -- The Beatles' "Across the Universe" -- directly into deep space at 7 p.m. EST on Feb. 4. Feb. 4 has been declared "Across The Universe Day" by Beatles fans to commemorate the anniversaries. As part of the celebration, the public around the world has been invited to participate in the event by simultaneously playing the song at the same time it is transmitted by NASA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj-4t9drUlM The transmission is being aimed at the North Star, Polaris, which is located 431 light years away from Earth. The song will travel across the universe at a speed of 186,000 miles per second. Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney expressed excitement that the tune, which was principally written by fellow Beatle John Lennon, was being beamed into the cosmos. "Amazing! Well done, NASA!" McCartney said in a message to the space agency. "Send my love to the aliens". Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, characterized the song's transmission as a significant event: "I see that this is the beginning of the new age in which we will communicate with billions of planets across the universe". The song, written by McCartney and John Lennon, may have a ticket to ride and will be flying at the speed of light. But it will take 431 years along a long and winding road to reach its final destination. That's because Polaris is 2.5 quadrillion miles away. NASA loaded an MP3 of the song, just under four minutes in its original version, and will transmit it digitally at 7 p.m. EST Monday from its giant antenna in Madrid, Spain. But if you wanted to hear it on Polaris, you would need an antenna and a receiver to convert it back to music, the same way people receive satellite television. The idea came from Martin Lewis, a Los Angeles-based Beatles historian, who then got permission from McCartney, Yoko Ono and the two companies that own the rights to Beatles' music. One of those companies, Apple, was happy to approve the idea because it's "always looking for new markets". The aliens are ecstatic: "We're not worried, we've got till 2439 to work on the decoding device. We just can't wait!" Some are a bit more skeptical: "What do they really mean when they're telling us `Nothing's gonna change my world` ?" And I wonder, wouldn't it be more fruitful if the U.S. would send this pure message of love accross our little planet first ?

It's Time for Magic

This Burning Man has just marked one year since I came to LA. An absolutely magical year! During this year I became closely involved in the Burner communities here and in So Cal and this amazing opportunity has no doubt changed my life. I've met all of you amazing people and incredibly creative artists who keep inspiring all of us with incredible art, ideas and events. It is my wish for the next year to be more intensively involved in these creative efforts. Hopefully this year starts with first steps in this direction with the first TerraKroma party, done together with an amazing group of artists, and now with posting my video art online. These are abstract visuals that I've made for Arroyo Seco Project's music. I'd be delighted to get your feedback on these and would love to hear if you have ideas for music that needs visuals or any other art project that's looking for collaborators.
