I arrived at Amsterdam Schiphol airport on Wednesday the 12th of Sept. 2007. The Flaming Lotus Girls are presenting the Serpent Mother at a festival called Robodock: www.robodock.org - and I am here as a part of the 16 person crew. Robodock is an arts and technology festival that highlights kinetic/mechanical art. It is really exciting to be here in Europe and see what ideas people have here.
I am looking forward to seeing the Royal Deluxe performances I have heard so much about. They are a group of puppeteers that work with 40ft. high puppets. They are experimental street puppeteers that never have a schedule or program of when they will perform. They just leave little clues and gradually build up to their gigantic performance. <object width="425" height="353"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qBXr15K2uSc"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qBXr15K2uSc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="353"></embed></object>
In addition to this, there is a huge SRL show on Saturday. Rumour has it, they will be running ALL their pulse jets! It will be a loud one.
In other exciting news: We already have four articles in four local newspapers and everyone is really excited to see the Serpent lit up. We have made amazing progress in installing her. We only have two more days to go and then we fire test. The Serpent will be run off of a 2100 gallon propane tank that we will share with another installation called the Large Hot Pipe Organ, which is a Large HOT Pipe Organ running off of propane.
Last night, the crew and I went to a party on a large fishing trawler called the "Stubnitz" that's docked right in the festival grounds. The funniest thing was to hear rockabilly and country music being played on the decks of the ship in the middle of the Amsterdam Bay! Nevertheless, it was super fun and we partied until 5am!
Today I learned about creating colored light patterns for the LED's in photoshop. I am planning to write out a few performance sequences that will include the fire and the LED's. We are just starting to play with all the possibilities of the Serpent Momma! It's so exciting!!
The people at the festival are awesome. The Dutch are really friendly and interesting. It is nice to be able to connect with so many artists in another country. I have been having the most fantastic conversations with people here.
The FLG are staying in an authentic Tibetan Yurt. We have our beds laid out in a circle with our heads pointing to the wood stove in the center. It has been really fun and brought us much closer as a group now that we have to smell each other's stinky toes and farts!
Another cool thing that has happened has been visiting a local Dutch artists called Theo Jansen near Delft, a town close to the North Sea. He makes the most phenomenal "animals" that move independently using the power of the wind: http://www.strandbeest.com/
It was an honor to meet him and have him demonstrate his work to us...it definitely got our pyro minds working double time!
You can check in with the Flaming Lotus blog too at: flaminglotus.wordpress.com
That's all for now folks

This weekend has been quite the mad one! On Saturday, the Fire Bloom crew made alot of progress on the newest bloom for Ocean Beach. It is looking great! We have three petals in, waiting for #4 and then all the curly edges to be added! We are two weeks ahead of schedule compared to the last one! Go girls!!!!
I also managed to set my sweatshirt on fire, all the way through to my last layer of clothing. I felt it getting awfully warm suddenly and thought that the sparks were getting too close. I look down and, lo and behold! My raggedy-ann sweatshirt is on fire and the shirt under it and the t-shirt under that! No worries though, I did not get burned...:)
[Unfortunately, my neck and shoulders are still giving me alot of pain. Been 5 days now :( I got a free exam the other day and it seems like a part of my spine is misaligned and swollen! I made an appt. for Wed. morning to see the chiropractor. I am totally scared. I have never done this before! Will it hurt?]
Then I raced back to SF and got set-up to film Kush and Maneesh's monthly party Suryadub (www.suryadub.com). It was Kush's record release party for his newest, most amazing, album, "From Brooklyn to SF." It was lots of fun and I got lots of great footage. Look for it soon on the suryadub site.
My girlfriends kidnapped me yesterday and took me on a non-stop party tour all day yesterday. We began at noon and ended at midnight. A good 12 hour run of Carnaval dancing, afternoon-pool-party-club dancing and an amazing concert-at-cafe-du-nord dancing (kind of...mostly swaying and rockin' out). I saw this amazing performance by a band called Haale (http://www.haale.com/), which also happens to be the singers name. She is awesome. Her songs are intimate glimpses in poetic form about self-discovery through mystical sufi concepts like LOVE of everything, being "mast" or as Kurt Vonnegut says,"...being smashed on the Great Big Everything" and living life to the max! I got to meet her at the end of the show and she is just as cute, passionate and fun as she is on stage, "Dig it!" she says.

Here is my first attempt at a blog. Dunno who I am writing this for, or who will be reading this, but here it is!
Now it's time to say something witty and interesting...drawing a blank here.
I can talk about my day yesterday. It was tons o fun. I drew new fire bloom designs all day. Attended Priya's home art show and then went to the beach for Rosa Anna's birthday. That was fun....we burnd in the bloom and got some dumb cop pissed off and bbq'ed and had a jolly old time. Then continued the merry making at Poons house. What fun!
Today I went to the park and chilled out with Sultana and that was the best because it has been ages since I have done that. Then I walked home and saw a gorgeous sunset from atop Bernal. Did you know that there are two white owls living there now? Apparently they come out at dusk...wasn't lucky enough to see them today. Maybe soon...
Happy Mother's Day to all the mama's out there!
