Intaking food through thought

Dagaz

In having this rune recently expose itself in my life, reflections of its meaning
have been apparent and even more so as I begin to explore it as the instant of breaking
through to the light, but also the instant of breaking through to the darkness. Symbolically
it is the dusk within the dawn and the dawn within the dusk. The transformation process at
the point of breakthrough, represented by the morning and evening stars. These cosmic
twins of the sky, reflect full awareness of our circumstances in discovering balance between
the daytimes activities of expansion and expression and the evenings period of rest in
ceasing from all external activities. Seeing that both day and night are necessary, rest and
activity should remain in balance for through this rune we can work towards our goals and
aspirations free of obstacles, traps and pitfalls.
Dagaz embodies the day and is the essence of natural daylight. In the strength of the sun
and the high point of the natural cycle of darkness-light-darkness it signifies brightness, growth,
development and fundamental change. In relation to the sun, Sowilo, Dagaz is the passage that
is taken across the sky from dawn as it merges with dusk. The sun being the hub with which our
day revolves upon, Dagaz is the sunlight and as a revealer acts in clarifying revelations from the
ignorance of the night time and the vagueness of its shadows.
The geometry of Dagaz reveals aspects of its infinite potential, others say it represents the cosmic
butterfly and the process of becoming. In representing both the instant a new butterfly is freed upon
its expansion into the light, and the struggles and the trials of transformation it goes through within
the darkness. When a butterfly breaks free from its cocoon it faces the world as a new more dynamic
form of beauty held in being. With this successful completion of a cycle, satisfaction and fulfillment
are brought about as this fertility symbol implies a new beginning.
This new beginning embodies for me the intention of coming back to the simple action of doing one
thing at a time. In shedding these veils of impatience, tending to this process has emerged through
releasing from self judgements and coming into acceptance of my thoughts and emotions. Tears,
whether of sorrow or of joy percolate deeply into my roots as echoing these sounds of healing they
remind me what it means to be human, to be feeling.
