about me
i always find this section so hard to do...i always feel like i need to be quirky and have a specialized response but ultimately i'm me and that's special enough...i'm a puerto rican jersey girl living in oakland and writing her Ph.D. diss in Japanese literature at UC Berkeley...i love to dance (you can find me at the various salsa clubs in the bay area) and i am a student of shabnam but have also taken classes at Lulu Sabongi's belly school (with Julli, Munira, and Lulu) in SP (Vila Mariana, near Ana Rosa Metro)...i'm a die hard Ooh La La (Check out our tribe) but have also danced Puerto Rican folkloric with Paule, Areito Borincano, and Taller Tamboricua...i'm a baby yogi (Ashtangi), love reading, photography, knitting, cooking, and sewing...no final words of wisdom...that's for another day...

Ok, so i took this workshop this weekend with Gamal Seif, an Egyptian-style dancer from Germany. All i can say is absolutely amazing. it was beyond words...it was a 5 hour workshop...first part focused on baladi and we did some pop baladi stuff and then we did some classical egyptian choreography...he's trained in ballet, modern dance, is a physical therapist, has all these amazing degrees in dance and well he's amazing...and the nerd in me was fascinated by all the information that he had ...

i kinda feel that if i even say anything about them, they lose their power...so i guess that i'll just say that i went to iguazu falls that border argentina and brazil and are really close also to paraguay...they don't have the most water (niagara does) but they do have the most number of falls...something like 250ish...it was amazing...nature and energy at its purest...so i'm gonna let the pics do the talking...feel free to browse:

I don't know how much, if any, of some of the politics here have seeped out into the media where you are so I thought I'd share these pics with you. i only used Windows Movie Maker and did something simple but i must say i give props to all those out there who make movies, videos, etc. it was especially hard for me to put together the clips just because of all the different music the dancers were dancing to...many times i feel that the change is abrupt but, hey, it's my first attempt at this...it can only get better, rig... read more
