This is a pukingly-cute video for you kitten lovers out there (like me!) It must have been pandemonium shooting this thing, especially the last scene in the dancehall. I also happen to love the song a lot, although the Catboy Slim version is nothing compared to the original. ;D

Happy Birthday, darling Wolfgang! You snotty little musical genius, you! You were a Turk-obsessed Rockstar of your time, with a self-destructive streak a mile wide who died WAY too young. I absolutely adore your music which, 200+ years later, has stood the test of time. I hope you don't mind me butchering your songs on the piano all these years, and that rolling over in your grave every time I sat down to the piano wasn't too burdensome, either. ;D

I love you, Wolfie! Happy Birthday!

It makes so much sense. Now all I need to do is figure out what my goals and dreams are. What are yours?

Week Six -- No Soda

I am a typical American. I was a kid raised with soda in the house. It was just what we drank. When I was thirsty, I'd go to the fridge and drink a Coke. Dr. Pepper was my all-time favorite, and a huge luxury when I lived in the orphanage. My dad would send me a care package every month, and once I convinced him to put a six-pack of Dr. Peppers in there. I don't even know how much the postage must have cost on that one, but he did it anyway. I drank that six-pack over the course of a few days, relishing each drop as if it were ambrosia. It *was* liquid gold to me.

As an adult, I consciously cut down my soda drinking quite a bit. When I found out each can contained the equivalent of 16 teaspoons of sugar (can you imagine putting that much sugar into a cup of coffee?), it really made me look at soda in a whole new light. And I have never been a diet soda drinker -- mostly because I think sugar substitutes are poison, and also because they taste awful (like carbonated chemicals). Now I rarely have soda at home, unless it's leftover mixers from a party. But that's really because if I do keep it at home, I will drink it until it's all gone. So it's better it doesn't cross the threshold into my house, because it's too difficult to resist the temptation to drink it while it's there (and why torture myself?).

Working in a big office for the last 6 years -- with soda machines sprinkled throughout -- got me back into the 1-2-3 can a day habit for a while. And I know it's not good for me. Especially now that all American-made sodas are made with low-quality high fructose corn syrup instead of straight sugar (yes, there *is* something worse than sugar), which has a whole additional host of problems it causes your body, that I won't get into here (google it for more info).

So in the first week of December, I cut it out. Cold Turkey. I have been tempted a couple of times, but I haven't given in. I replaced my soda consumption with Pellegrino when I want something bubbly, but otherwise it's water and vegetable juices for me. My skin miraculously cleared up, and even the texture changed (more refined, smaller pores, much less oily). I don't attribute that to the lack of soda, but more to the increase of water. But whatever the cause, that's a big difference.

I'm really proud of myself for keeping my resolve through the holidays, which was a big test -- now it seems like a piece of cake. And the more distance I put between myself and my memories of drinking soda, the less I miss it. Hopefully one day I will have no temptation at all.

Yay for baby steps towards better health!

KABOOM!

It seems there's been a whole lotta dog fukkin' going on in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and now the babies are being born. I guess that's what happens when animals have nothing else better to do.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/01/04/katrina.puppies.ap/index.html

"Workers have yet to see a spike in cat births, but there's no doubt about what dogs have been doing since the hurricane, said Tara High, executive director of the nonprofit group."

I wonder if we're going to see lots of new human pups being born in about 5-6 more months. Humans ARE animals, after all. ;D

All my photo modules are collapsed in my profile (even my kitty photos) and all my pictures have been turned into "friends only". Apparently I can change it back to public, but I would have to do it one-by-one and that would be burdensome for 1600+ pictures in my photoalbum.
