What happened to Zimra?
Mon, January 5, 2009 - 6:32 PMI've spent pretty much the entire fall and winter dealing with a frightening case of swollen lymph nodes - a head and neck full of 'em - with no apparent cause. After much battling with insurance, visiting of doctors and more doctors and the finding of specialists, taking of drugs and having blood test after blood test, I am finally beginning to get some answers.
I don't have them all yet, and it will probably be another couple of weeks before I get the answer to the big question: Is it cancer? I have a family history of lymphatic cancer (my dad) so this is no small concern. Having finally gotten a CT scan that proved that, um, my head and neck are full of cervical adenopathies (dude, I totally knew that! That means swollen lymph nodes!) I am FINALLY having surgery this week to excise one of the nodes in my neck for biopsy, so this should give me a definitive answer on that subject. It's my first surgery and involves general anesthesia, so I'm pretty nervous.
I apologize for putting everything else in the world on hold. I've been pretty much living in terror since September, and was starting to look for youtube videos on how to excise your own lymph nodes. Fortunately my ENT specialist is also a very good neck surgeon, so I'll be going under his knife on Wednesday. Eep.
I'll update when I get some answers, and if it turns out to be that blessed, blessed "no" I will resume life, socializing, costuming, dancing, and even answering emails. For now I'm going back to my crazy world of fear and worry, and will return you to your regularly scheduled radio silence.
Hugs,
a somewhat lumpy Zimra

Hang in there Zimra, all will be okay. I will send you some positive energy tho for a calm and successful surgery... and NO CANCER! I just had surgery a couple weeks ago to remove a really bad bone spur in my shoulder. I had been living with it for a long time and this last year and a half has been really awful! I finally had to break down and let them do something about it. It even knocked me out of dancing!! We couldn’t have that! So, it was my Christmas Eve Eve present to me and had the surgery Dec 23rd... everything went well. My shoulders are now even and no more pinchy pain when I lift my arms. LOL Now it’s just PAIN! But that’s all surgical and it will go away soon, especially since I started physical therapy today and did very well. I think I will heal quickly and will be dancing again very soon. I really miss my Gypsy Soul and Wicked Gypsy Sisters!!
The same goes for you. They will figure this out and you’ll be able to stop living in the world of fear and worry and get back to the things that matter most. Good luck with it all and know that we are all thinking of you and sending positive, healing energy your way. Love ya sweetie! ~Zing |

So sorry to hear :( WE'll send positive thoughts you're way! Keep being a good advocate for yourself. It's tough but having a nurse for a mom, and dealing with chronic pain issues, have taught and reinforced that you have to be your own advocate. Doctors are helpful but not as interested in you as you are. You need to do your research and push for the things you need. Don't sweat the surgery though- tons of surgeries happen all the time with good results.
General anesthesia is weird but not really scarey. You'll feel all fucked up after the surgery- don't even try to think- just eat something and go to sleep. Another weird thing is about 2 days later you'll feel like someone beat the shit out of you- it sucks but again- just go to sleep & the next day will be better. You can also check with your doctor- alot of times they tell you "don't eat after midnight" but in truth it's really only 6-7hrs you need to fast. I felt less stressed by having a late snack right at that 7hr pre-surgery. I also didn't get sick after either surgery like so many other people.... Good luck! We'll think good thoughts for you!!! |

That's a long time to be waiting and worrying. Heal and feel better.
